Moutere Hills Cellar Door

Visit our Cellar Door where our friendly and knowledgeable team will take you through a tasting of the Moutere Hills wines and help you to select some treasures for you to take home.

A small charge is made for you to select and taste 4 of our wines, we can also make recommendations for you to sample the best from our delicious vintages. Our wines are complex and true to the land, making the perfect accompaniment to Alistair’s gourmet creations in the restaurant.

We produce ten different handmade varietals on site including our very limited edition Chenin Blanc and Viognier. Chardonnay is our flagship wine, 50% of the vineyards are planted with this varietal, we make two styles, toasty oak and our Sarau Reserve barrel selection more fruity and creamy.

Sarau was the name given to the Moutere by German settlers in the mid 1800’s and we have named our reserve wines in their honour.

The Moutere Hills label is uniquely New Zealand, it was designed by the Wellington artist Sandra Rogers and is from the Maori design ‘Ngaru’ which represents the cutting of waves when a waka (canoe) is moving, this is apt for us as ‘Moutere’ in Maori means ‘sail swiftly for you’.
